A long drive and Barbary macaques
It's too late to write much tonight, but I think tomorrow will be worse, as we're not supposed to be back to the hotel until 8 PM.
We left Fes at 8 AM and started the long drive to Erfoud, in the Atlas Mountains. We climbed and climbed, and the bus kept passing trucks that were barely moving. Pretty soon we hit snow, but it was from last week and it wasn't on the road. As we drove through the forests of the middle Atlas Mountains (we were heading for the high Atlas Mountains), our guide said we might stop to see Barbary macaques, if they were near the road in the forest. These macaques are the same species found on Gibraltar, but these are not agressive, though they do come down to the road to get food from the tourists. And the locals, I think. They were near the road, probably about 20 of them, and I got a picture that I really like.
But, of course, I got lots of pictures of them.
Soon after that, we started to see the high Atlas. The sun was high and bright by now, so it wasn't good for pictures.
We crossed the mountains, and the terrain kept changing. There was some amazing scenery, but pictures will have to wait.
The hotel is wonderful, but that will have to wait for another day as well. We're off to the desert tomorrow. First we look at fossils, then we are going further out, cumulating with riding a camel into the sand to watch the sunset. Should be a good day!
The kids have enjoyed looking at the pictures
