Driving north on Lofoten
My drive today was from Å, the southernmost town on Moskenesøya, to Andøya. It was a long drive, made longer by some really fun stops along the way. Luckily, the weather was better than it was on my drive south, though I did hit some rain. Since the light was so much better, I first stopped for more pictures of Reine.
A few miles further north, I saw a sign for a village off the main road, so, of course, I took it! The town of Sund has fishing (of course), a glassblower making jewelry (Thor's Glass Shop), and a blacksmith shop. There were all sorts of interesting things to photograph, so, of course, I did.
Oh, I mentioned the wooden racks that they use to dry fish. Here's what they look like.
As I drove north, I took pictures of tunnels as I went. There are tunnels here that go under water, but just as many go through mountains. The center image were some half-tunnel things I saw too. I guess they protect the road from rockslides.
Bridges are just as numerous, and I thought these were magical.
I stopped for lunch, and Google Translate came to the rescue. I got the børek, which was a phyllo type dough filled with pototoes. Yum!!
The autumn colors have made everything brighter, even on gloomy days!
I've already written about the end of this day, as I arrived at my rustic farmhouse, so I'll end there. I'll be back in Bergen tomorrow afternoon, then back in Reykjavik on Tuesday for my second week there. Right now, all of Iceland is under severe weather warnings. The East Fjords, where I was 2 weeks ago, are under a red alert tomorrow. That means that the roads are closed. Since they are expecting winds of 160 km/h there, that's probably a good idea. That is sustained winds of 100 mph!
