Rain and more rain!
Updated: Aug 20, 2023
I keep thinking how lucky I was when I first got to Iceland in early September and had 4 days of magnificent blue skies and warm weather. This week? Not so much. Oh well. At least I wasn't on the road here last Sunday when there were hurricane force winds! I did have a nice drive yesterday around one of the northern peninsulas. The wind was intense at one point, but it was very beautiful, and there was another orange lighthouse!
I also saw a several fields full of geese. This image is mostly graylag geese, but there were some pink-footed geese there too.
I've take a lot of pictures of the horses here. There are horses everywhere. I'll look up on a mountainside and see a bunch, or they'll be standing by the fence, with their manes blowing in the wind.
I saw some foals/yearlings yesterday too, and they were adorably fuzzy.
I drove down to Akureyri and walked around again. It's a nice little town! I may go in for breakfast again, like I did my first time here. I wasn't planning to spend the night here, but on my way out of town, heading to Myatyn, I noticed a sign for the Forest Spa. So, I stopped and had a lovely time lazing in the hot water with a glass of red wine.
After the wine, I decided to stay in Akureyri for the night. I'm heading to Dettifoss to hike to the waterfall in a few minutes...unless I go to brunch first. Dettifoss is about 2 hours away. Maybe the rain will let up, but, as I've said, I've got plenty of rain gear.
I like the animals. It’s all beautiful !
