Writing at 36,000 feet
So, I splurged and upgraded my Air France economy ticket to the next level (not business, which would have been $800 more!). It's pretty nice. Lots of legroom and extras. The plane isn't full, and there is no one next to me. As we taxied, I got a brief view of the Manhattan skyline. Thirty minutes later, we're flying northeast up the coast and it's almost full dark. (Deanie, if you're in Newfoundland, look up in a few minutes and I'll wave at you.) There's a bright moon overhead. I'm on the right side of the plane, so if the Northern lights come out to play, I won't be able to see them.
If only I had known about the Air France goodies, I could have saved $8. They gave me a cute blue striped bag with a washcloth, earplugs, mask,...and a toothbrush and toothpaste. The seats also have water bottles, regular headphones, and lots of charging slots. And the requisite pillow and blanket—I'm using two of each!
I really need to sleep soon, since it's only a 6 hour flight, but I'm not sleeping until after dinner. I'll write more after the meal, which I hope comes soon!
Yummy! I drank both the champagne and the wine—I do need to sleep! Well, that's my story, and I'm sticking to it. I'm still not sure what the dessert was. It had a shortbread cookie on the bottom, a mousse, and a fruit topping. It was tasty, whatever it was. And then they came around and asked if we wanted coffee or tea...or brandy. I have discovered French pear brandy. And with that, I'm calling it a night.
Oh, except for the man across the aisle. Turns out he's a Moroccan living in New York. We'll be on the same flight tomorrow.
Five hours later: I did get some sleep, maybe 3 hours before they turned the lights back on and gave us coffee. I'm finishing this up in Paris at the gate for my next flight, which will board in about 20 minutes. Next stop, Casablanca!
